In Douarnenez for the Mini Fastnet

The French Mini Fastnet is about to start. This doublehanded race goes from Douarnenez in France around the Fastnet Rock in front of Ireland and back to Douarnenez.

Unfortunately, I will not be sailing in this race. I came down from England with all my gear, hoping to coskipper on one of the Minis. Except that this year everyone has organised their crew beforehand.

Only one year ago I received three phone calls in one day asking me to take the evening ferry and join them for this race. It looks like this year’s skippers are a little bit more organised.

So instead I am living off dry Baguettes and talking to the German, Dutch and Spanish competitors about their boats. My French is not good enough to attempt communication with them yet.
